February 24, 2021 – Trauma of Money

Many of us would benefit from understanding how our upbringing and core-beliefs shape our thoughts and behaviours around money. This is especially true when we experience problems such as compulsive spending or financial avoidance. Our presenter will take a compassionate approach to discussing initial considerations for identifying our psychological triggers as a meaningful step towards financial safety and well-being. This workshop is based on the Trauma of Money Program which is an accredited course with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association.
For over a decade Alexandra Patrich has had the privilege of learning from Canada’s diverse Indigenous communities. Her deep-seated commitment for organizational and community development began through these relationships, as it was here where she first questioned whose voices and experiences were informing our practices. These questions have grounded her practice in restorative frameworks while working in the areas of: the prevention of human trafficking and sexual exploitation of children and youth; the role of gender in reporting childhood sexual abuse; decolonizing Indigenous child welfare systems of care; and systems transformation for individuals with concurrent and complex needs who are navigating criminal justice, health and/or child welfare systems; and most recently as the Manager for Quality Care and Safety at First Nations Health Authority.
Alexandra’s experiences are complemented by her education in social work (Bachelor in Social Work), with a specialization in child welfare, and community health sciences (Master in Science), with a focus in family violence and conflict resolution. Alexandra is currently registered with the B.C. College of Social Workers and is working towards her Certificate of Indigenous Leadership, Governance, and Management Excellence through the Banff Centre. In June 2020, Alexandra completed her Certificate as a Trauma of Money Facilitator.
